It was 'Fan Appreciation Night' at Jennerstown Speedway as the crowd, estimated at over 6,000, was treated to a fantastic night of racing in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series.  After an hour-long driver autograph session, which saw all drivers and their cars parked on the frontstretch to meet with the fans, the action on the track heated up with a couple drivers picking up their first wins of the season.  Kyle Martel was the star attraction of the evening as the Lebanon, PA driver won his third straight PA Legacy Series feature event.  But surely his finest moment came in the Wheeler Brothers Super Late Models by picking up his first ever win in the premier division in just his rookie campaign.  Other winners on this night included Todd Price in the New Enterprise Stone and Lime Late Models, Roger Onstead in the Day Ford Street Stocks, Scott Bowman in the Somerset Furniture Sales Chargers, and Patrick Parlock in the Advance Auto Parts Hobby Stocks.  After the racing was completed, Shaffer Pyrotechnics presented a spectacular fireworks display.

Kyle Martel jumped out to a quick lead in the PA Legacy Series feature event with Jayme Bolkovac following close behind throughout the early stages of the race.  Bolkovac could get right behind Martel but not make her move, but coming on strong was P.J. Ehrlich as the third place driver was closing in on the leaders.  His break came on lap 19 when the caution flew for a spinning Brad Grace.  Bolkovac got to the high side of Martel on the restart but could not make the pass which allowed Ehrlich to move to the inside and eventually make the move past Bolkovac into second but could not catch Martel who went onto take the win.  Ehrlich came home second while a three-wide battle to the stripe for third saw Bolkovac hold off Brett Boyer and Dave Campbell for the spot.  Boyer took fourth and Campbell fifth.  Boyer won the heat race in which saw a hard crash involving Ed Butler and Dave Holder, eliminating them from the remainder of the evening.

Scott Bowman passed early leader Rick Phillips on lap 3 of the 15-lap charger feature event and was never challenged from that point on.  As Phillips settled solidly into the second position, the battle shaped up for third involving Stephen Mock, Michael Stevens and Duane Noel.  Noel, who had won the last two feature events, would get past both Mock and Stevens for third and start to close in on Phillips but ran out of time in the caution free event.  Bowman won his third feature on the season followed by Phillips, Noel, Stevens, and Mock in the top five.  Bowman also won the heat race.

The 25-lap late model feature saw Jacob Coffin lead his first lap of the season before yielding to Wade Champeno on the second circuit.  Contact between Mel Wilt and Rick Boyer coming out of turn 2 caused enough damage to Wilt's machine to bring out the yellow on lap 5 as he came to a stop in turn 3.  Todd Price was able to avoid the mishap and got the jump on Champeno after the restart and took off with the lead.  Dusty Rhoads and Boyer would also get past Champeno and put on a great battle for the second spot with Boyer finally getting past for the spot with only a handful of laps remaining.  Price went on to take win number three with Boyer coming home second ahead of Rhoads, Wilt and Champeno in the top five.  Champeno won the heat race.

Bobby Young looked strong in the early part of the 20-lap street stock feature event as he jumped out to the lead.  A scary moment took place on lap 3 as the red flag would fly for Travis Smith, who's car slammed into the turn 3 wall, going up and over ending up outside the speedway.  Fortunately Smith climbed from his destroyed car under his own power but was checked out in the ambulance and was ok.  When racing resumed Young got the jump on second place Josh Dunmyer on the restart to keep the lead but closing hard was Roger Onstead who was back after a couple weeks absence with motor problems.  Onstead grabbed the lead from Young on lap 12 as right behind came Dunmyer, Jason Holder and Dink Colarusso, up from his 12th starting spot in the 16-car field.  The yellow would fly on lap 13 for Holder after making hard contact with the backstretch wall, ending his night.  Onstead kept the lead on the restart as Colarusso battled with Dunmyer for the second spot and would make his move past but run out of time to catch the leader.  Onstead picked up his first win of the season ending Colarussos string of four consecutive wins.  Rounding out the top five were Dunmyer, Young and George Nicola.  Onstead and Colarusso won the heat races.

Kyle Martel got the jump on polesitter Todd Goble at the start of the 50-lap super late model feature and set out to the early lead.  Contact between Mark Smith and Neil Brown on lap 7 brought out an early yellow flag, sending both cars to the rear of the field.  As the field went back to green, the rookie Martel took off with the lead over veterans Garry Wiltrout, Barry Awtey and Bobby Henry.  Martel would build a straightaway lead on second place Wiltrout, but a yellow for Goble and Snooky Williams on lap 37 would bunch the field for a shootout to the finish.  Wiltrout made his move on the restart on Martel but could not completely make the pass and fell back into the second spot.  Awtey and Henry raced side by side for the third spot for countless laps before Awtey would move ahead.  But on this night it was youth instead of experience as the 17 year old went on to take his first win in the super late models.  Wiltrout, Awtey, Henry, and Brown completed the top five.  Smith and Martel took heat race wins.

William Carson led lap 1 of the 15-lap hobby stock feature before quickly fading, handing over the lead to Bob Enos.  On the move was Patrick Parlock, coming from the back of the field he made his way up to second by lap 5 and passed Enos on the high side to take the lead one lap later.  Parlock could not pull away from the field once in front but was safely ahead to not be challenged the remainder of the way in the caution free event and take home his third win of the season.  Enos held onto second with Jim Biss coming home in third.  Greg Lohr and Deidre Petrie rounded out the top five.  Parlock won the heat race.

Coming up next Saturday, Western PA GM Service Club and Seven Springs Mountain Resort will present a regular five-division program under the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series banner.  The super late models, late models, street stocks, chargers, and hobby stocks will be joined by the PA Legacy Series and the Super Minicup cars will make their second appearance of the season.  Main gates open at 4:30 with racing to start at 6:00.  For more information on this event or any upcoming events, contact the speedway office at 814.629.6677 or log onto www.jennerstown.com.
