IVAN FORCES
JENNERSTOWN SPEEDWAY TO CANCEL |
| |
by Mike Rininger
Unfortunately the heavy rains associated
with the remnants of Hurricane Ivan that hit
the Laurel Highlands on Friday into early
Saturday made the speedway grounds just too
saturated for fans and drivers.
Saturday morning most of the pit area was
under flood waters. Speedway
management was forced to cancel the final
night of points in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Series at Jennerstown Speedway as a result.
Thus, point champions in all six divisions
were determined by the point standings
coming into this weekend.
Garry Wiltrout, in his first full-time
effort at the Laurel Highlands Oval, won the
Wheeler Brothers Super Late Model division
title. Rick Boyer won the inaugural
championship in the New Enterprise Stone and
Lime Late Models. Dink Colarusso made it
back-to-back titles in the Day Ford Street
Stocks as Duane Noel won the Somerset
Furniture Sales Chargers. Patrick Parlock
won the Advance Auto Parts Hobby Stock crown
and Kyle Martel took his first championship
in the PA Legacy Series.
Jennerstown Speedway has one more night of
racing left for the 2004 season as on
September 25 the USAR Hooters Procup Series
will be on hand to present the Charlie
Campbell Memorial/ BF Goodrich 250. This is
the first of the five championship series
events as the Northern and Southern Division
s top drivers will be in attendance. Also in
competition will be the Allison National
Legacy Series for a 50-lap event. Tickets
are on sale at the track office. For more
information on this event contact the track
office at 814.629.6677 or visit
www.jennerstown.com.
