JENNERSTOWN CROWNS 2004 TRACK CHAMPIONS |

JENNERSTOWN,PA (Oct. 16) .... Gary Wiltrout was the big
winner at the annual Jennerstown Speedway awards
banquet, as the Somerset driver was officially crowned
the 2004 Wheeler Bothers super late model track champion
in ceremonies staged at the Seven Springs Resort.
A part-time competitor at the half-mile Somerset County
asphalt oval in the past, Wiltrout captured four feature
wins and had 15 top-5 finishes to wrestle the title away
from 2003 champion Barry Awtey, who had to settle for
runner up honors this year.
Other track champions honored included: Rick Boyer (
New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co.late models), Dink
Colarusso (Day Ford street stocks), Kyle Martel (legacy
cars), Patrick Parlock ( Advance Auto Parts hobby
stocks) and Duane Noel (Somerset Furniture Sales
chargers).
Rob VanFleet, who served as Wiltrout's winning super
late model crew chief, was voted NASCAR Craftsman
Mechanic of the Year by his fellow competitors.
Speedway rookie of the year awards were presented to:
Martel (super late model), Todd Price (late model), Greg
Praysner (street stock), Ed Butler (legacy cars), Bill
Karson (hobby stock), and Stephen Mock
(chargers).
Wiltrout (super late model), Dusty Rhoads (late model),
Bobby Young (street stock),
Dave Campbell (legacy cars), Diedre Petrie (hobby stock)
and Scott Bowman (chargers) were recognized with most
improved driver awards.
Eric Kulikowski presented Mary Ann Boyer, who is
retiring after eight years as president of the
Pennsylvania Legacy Car Series, with a gift for her
service and dedication to the organization.
NASCAR Northeastern Region Director Ron Bennett was the
featured speaker. Bennett, who is also involved in the
management of the Holland (NY) Speedway, stressed the
importance of weekly short-track racing in the overall
NASCAR structure, and outlined several changes that will
be forthcoming to competitors in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Racing Series.
