The Pease Motorsports team went to
this track with high hopes. We had
heard that the track was fast and
smooth after just getting paved a
few weeks earlier. Kyle went out for
practice and just got the car up to
speed, running only about 5 laps
when he noticed a problem with the
car and brought it in. The team
really pulled together and checked
out the transmission and then the
engine before determining, the
engine that had less than 350 laps
on it, would not make another one.
The new engine the team had been
waiting on for weeks was still
getting the final touches put on it
in North Carlolina. So the team went
to work on the steel head motor
(which had been legal to run until
the last race)taking the heads off
it to put the aluminum ones on from
the other motor. That attempt
failed.
Never wanting to give up, car owners
Tom and Peggy Pease went to each of
the Chevy teams, asking to barrow a
motor or a set of aluminum heads.
The only team with another motor
blew up in practice. By now practice
was over and it was time for the
drivers meeting. Kyle went and asked
the competitors himself if he could
barrow and engine.
With only 26 cars at the track, Kyle
asked the officials if he could put
the steel head motor in and just
start the race, allowing him to get
at least some points. The answer was
no. While packing up, Kyle said "
Running without any funding to speak
of, this motor problem has made us
have to reevaluate our plans for the
next few weeks". Tom Pease said "We
are working really hard to get a
sponsor, Kyle and this team work
hard and we want to give them the
best we can but without a major
sponor, it's tough out here, right
now we are not sure if we will make
it to Salem or not". |
