Hopeful of Virginia Kindness at Motor Mile Speedway |

CANONSBURG, PA (July 16, 2004) – It’ s
been said that Virginia is for Lovers and
Logan Dernoshek and the No. 10 USAR Hooters
ProCup team hope this weekend’s outing in
Radford, Va., is one that they love in
comparison to their past two outings. Motor
problems hampered the team’s efforts at the
two tracks closest to their home in
Jennerstown and Erie, Penn.
Dernoshek
skipped the series’ most recent outing at
Kil-Kare Speedway in Xenia, Oh., to
concentrate on this weekend’s event at Motor
Mile Speedway. A rookie, this will be his
first chance to compete at the extremely
popular facility in southwest Virginia.
“This
is another new track for us,” said Dernoshek.
“Dad went to the race there last year and
watched but I have never seen the track. We
talked to some people and they kind of gave
us a good starting point. Hopefully all we
have to do is fine tune the car during
practice. I hear it's a beautiful track and
has a really good fan following. I'm sure
they're going to see a great show.”
In Dernoshek’s
lone finish this year at Indianapolis
Raceway Park, the team fought a tight
condition most of the event but still came
home with a top-15 finish. That was in
mid-May, two months ago, and a good run in
Virginia could set the tone for the rest of
the 200 4
season.
“I think it's
very important to finish this event,”
admitted the rookie from Canonsburg, Penn.
“Everyone is really kind of down after
having problems the last two races. We need
a good day to bring everyone up. The purse
money from a good finish would really help
too. After all of the trouble we've had, I
think our biggest goal is to make the race
and finish. A top ten would be like a win
for us. I want to be watching the end of the
race from the driver’s seat, not from the
trailer or the stands.”
The race
at Lake Erie Speedway was the team’s second
part failure of the year. The reconstruction
of the motor from the two Pennsylvania
events has allowed the team to consider a
few options in the motor department and
evaluate their motor program.
“Of course,
Lake Erie was another part failure,” the
driver of the unsponsored No. 10 Pontiac
said. “A couple of lifters broke and ended
up killing the cam at the same time. It's
unfortunate but it's nobody's fault. It just
happens. Hopefully we have things back
together like they need to be and hopefully
we have some more torque in the motor now.”
