Garvey CLOSES
POINT GAP AT IRP!!
On Saturday night,
August 2, ASA
veteran Mike Garvey
celebrated his
second ASA National
Tour victory of the
season after winning
the Meijer 200
presented by SK Hand
Tool at Indianapolis
Raceway Park.
Garvey, whose first
victory came at
Lanier in the second
race of the season,
was the fastest car
in both practices
and backed it up
with his 19th career
victory. "Man, we
were good in
practice and we
wanted to leave it
alone and not work
on it too hard,"
said the affable
Atlanta-based
driver. "It worked
right to our favor.
We ran as fast at
the end of the race
as we qualified and
that's pretty
amazing for that
many laps on these
tires." Pole sitter
Scott Lagasse Jr.
was second, followed
by points leader
Kevin Cywinski,
Bryan Reffner, Toby
Porter, Reed
Sorenson, Todd
Kluever, Travis
Kittleson and Mike
Eddy. Butch Miller,
making his 300th
career start,
finished 10th.
Cywinski will retain
the points lead, but
with the win, Garvey
will move into
second. Rookie Wade
Day, who had been
running second, will
lose the spot to
Garvey after being
involved in a lap 78
multi-car accident
in which he suffered
a bruised a foot.
The ASA points
battle is heating
up! With Garvey's
win at IRP he is now
only 66 points
behind series leader
Kevin Cywinski and
59 points ahead of
third place driver
Wade Day. The lass
two races have had
33 cars competing
for the National
Title.
