The American Speed
Association and Yahoo! Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com)
have reached an agreement that calls for audio coverage
of the remainder of the 2004 ASA National Tour schedule
to be webcast live on the Internet. These broadcasts
will include live coverage of qualifying and races, and
start with the August 14 ASA Racing Jennerstown 250 at
Jennerstown (Pa.) Speedway.
“We experienced a phenomenal response to the test from
the race at Indianapolis Raceway Park,” said John Macik,
ASA’s executive vice president and COO. “The feedback we
received from that RSBN.net broadcast reinforced our
suspicions that this was something our fans wanted to
help keep them abreast of what was happening during the
ASA National Tour races if they couldn’t be at the track
in person. We are confident that Yahoo! Sports will
bring their technology experience to help us elevate
this program to the next level.”
To listen in from Jennerstown Speedway, or any of the
ASA National Tour events, simply visit the ASA Web site,
www.asaracing.com,
and click on the “tune in” icon. This will open up a new
window and the stream will automatically begin. Users
can work on the computer while listening, or just leave
it on like a radio.
The agreement allows for Yahoo! Sports to provide ASA
with up to nine hours of broadcast time, enabling ASA to
offer more action from the track, including qualifying,
pre- and post-race coverage, and the race itself. Future
plans could include adding companion events to the
broadcast, such as when the ASA Late Model Series runs
in conjunction with the National Tour cars. Another
exciting element to this program is that the broadcasts
will be archived for one year to allow listening at the
user’s convenience.
“The American Speed Association has a long history in
stock car racing and a loyal fan following,” said Brian
Grey, general manager of Yahoo! Sports. “We are thrilled
to add them to our growing list of broadcast services
partners, alongside other top motorsports properties
such as NHRA Drag Racing and the Indy Racing League.”
