HENRY, URSO
AND MARTEL DOMINATE RACES, COLARUSSO TIES SPEEDWAY
RECORD AT JENNERSTOWN
(Jennerstown, PA) The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series and
Pennsylvania Legacy Series are approaching their
twilight at Jennerstown Speedway and the points races
continue to tighten in several divisions.
Saturday night, “The Connellsville Comet” Bobby Henry
led every lap of the Rolling Rock Late Model feature
winning his second feature of 2003. However, the win was
not without drama. At the race’s midway point, Henry led
the field by nearly a quarter mile. But a caution on lap
27 erased his lead and put points leader Barry Awtey
right next to Henry for the restart. Henry was able to
rebuild a significant lead as he crossed the line for
the win leading every lap of the fifty lap feature.
Bobby Henry was followed by Barry Awtey, Neil Brown,
Chuckie Keslar and Tommy Beck in the top five finishers.
Henry and Beck shared heat race wins.
With
two weeks of racing remaining, Barry Awtey holds a
twelve point lead over Neil Brown in the Rolling Rock
Late Model Division points.
The
Tommy Gale/Haulmark Trailers Pro Truck feature had fans
on the edge of their seats. Todd Price and Jason Lasky
wowed fans as they fought door to door for the lead.
But, the two made contact on lap 12 and Lasky paid the
price going into the wall in turns 1 and 2 eliminating
him from competition. Price went on to win the feature
maintaining the lead for the entire feature. In his
sixth win of 2003, Alum Bank, PA’s Todd Price was
followed by Derek Wink, Marion Reno, Jr., Josh
Coughenour and Eugene Ciferno in the top five. Price
made it a clean sweep by taking the heat race win.
Thirty
points now separate Todd Price and Jason Lasky in the
Tommy Gale/Haulmark Trailers Pro Truck points.
This
week’s Jennerstown Speedway Modified feature was much
tamer than last week’s with Paul Urso leading the parade
of cars and going on to win his second race of 2003.
After leading every lap, Glenshaw, PA’s Paul Usro was
joined by Jason Busch, Mike Bakalon, Bernie McQuillan
and Brian Stephenson in the top five finishers. Bernie
McQuillan was the heat race winner.
Urso’s
win enabled him to extend his points lead to eight
points over Mike Bakalon in the Modified point
standings.
Street
Stock division points leader Dink Colarusso continued
his historic season at Jennerstown Speedway Saturday
night. Colarusso took advantage of a caution on lap 8
and quickly moved up through the field to the front on
lap 11. The West Mifflin, PA driver’s fifteenth win of
the season ties Steve Peles’s 1987 track record for most
wins in a season. Josh Dunmyer, Richard Nicola, Bill
Ashton and Billy Mostoller joined Colarusso in the top
five finishers. Colarusso and June Weyant were the heat
race winners.
In the
PA Legacy Series feature, Lebanon, PA’s Kyle Martel took
off from the pole position, led all 25 laps, and went on
to win his second feature of 2003 at Jennerstown.
Martel, P.J. Ehrlich, Dave Campbell, Rick Boyer and
Jayme Bolkovac made up the rest of the top five
finishers. Ehrlich and Bolkovac were heat race winners.
Level
Green, PA’s Greg Praysner returned from a nasty accident
last week to revisit victory lane in this week’s Charger
feature at Jennerstown. Scott Bowman led fourteen of the
fifteen laps of the race. But, as the front pack came
through turn four for the checkered, lapped traffic
caused come confusion and Praysner roared across the
line to celebrate his seventh win of 2003. Praysner,
Duane Noel, Scott Bowman, Chantal Germek and Mike
Stevens made up the top five drivers. Praysner was also
the heat race winner.
Two
points now separate Praysner from the Charger division
points leader Chantal Germek.
Johnstown, PA’s Patrick Parlock won the Mens Enduro
feature while Huntingdon, WV’s Pamela Parlock took home
the trophy in the Womens Enduro race.
