KELLEY,
ONSTEAD VISIT VICTORY LANE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2003 IN
RAIN SHORTENED NIGHT AT JENNERSTOWN
(Jennerstown, PA). Rain has been a hindrance throughout
the 2003 season and Saturday night was no different as a
perpetual drizzle stopped racing at Jennerstown
Speedway. Now, only one night of racing remains and the
division points races are coming down to the wire.
The
Rolling Rock Late Models were one of the victims of the
rainout having their fifty lap feature postponed until
Saturday, September 20th. While Bobby Henry
and Neil Brown won the heat races, Barry Awtey leads the
division by just twelve points over Brown. This coming
Saturday, fans will be treated to twin fifty lap
features of the Rolling Rock Late Models as Jennerstown
Speedway will crown its 2003 track champions.
In the
Tommy Gale/Haulmark Trailers Pro Trucks, Gregory Kelley
took off with the lead early in the race. He survived
several restarts after cautions in the race and went on
to win the feature. The Connellsville, PA driver was
followed by Marion Reno, Jr., Derek Wink, Todd Price and
Todd Corson in the top five finishers.
Jason
Lasky won the heat race but was knocked down a notch in
the points. For the second consecutive week, Lasky was
involved in an incident that took him out of the race
early. Alum Bank, PA’s Todd Price continues to lead the
division points, but 2002 division champ Marion Reno,
Jr. is now in second place trailing by 26 points.
In the
Jennerstown Speedway Modifieds, Bob Bentz, Jr. dominated
the caution free feature and returned to victory lane
after a few very rough weeks of racing. The Irwin, PA
driver was followed by Mike Bakalon, Jason Busch, Paul
Urso and Bernie McQuillan in the top five. Paul Urso,
who won the heat race, now leads the division by just 4
points over Mike Bakalon.
Dink
Colarusso’s record breaking reign in victory lane came
to an end on Saturday as Friedens, PA’s Roger Onstead
fought his way to the front and took home the win in the
Street Stocks. Several mid race cautions enabled Onstead
to work his way through the pack from his ninth place
starting position to take the win on the final laps of
the feature. Jeff Petrini, Richard Nicola, Bill Ashton
and David Tavormina joined Onstead in the top five
finishers. Colarusso, who joined Bill Ashton in winning
heat races, finished a season worst eighth, but has all
but cinched up the Street Stock division title. He now
leads the division by 64 over Roger Onstead.
Oakmont, PA’s P.J. Ehrlich used a mid race caution to
his advantage taking the lead on the restart and winning
his fourth PA Legacy Series feature of 2003 at
Jennerstown. Ehrlich was chasing Kyle Martel and was
able to move ahead of him after a lap 15 incident
involving Chris Brink and Ken Pearce. Ehrlich and Martel
were followed by Brett Boyer, Jayme Bolkovac and Dave
Campbell in the top five. P. J. Ehrlich and Chris Brink
were the heat race winners.
Phill
“Hoss” Grubbs once again found victory lane as he won
his third Jennerstown Speedway Charger feature of 2003
Saturday night. After moving ahead of the pack, Grubbs
built up an impressive lead and held off Greg Praysner
for the win. Stahlstown, PA’s Phill Grubbs and Praysner
were followed by Chantal Germek, Duane Noel and Mike
Stevens in the top five. Greg Praysner was the heat race
winner.
The
finish moves Praysner and Germek into a tie for the
points lead in the Jennerstown Speedway Chargers.
The
Mens Enduro feature scheduled for Saturday will be made
up on September 20th.
This
Saturday, the 2003 seasons of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Series and the PA Legacy Series will come to a close at
Jennerstown Speedway. Seven divisions will be racing at
the Laurel Highlands Oval and the Rolling Rock Late
Models will be running twin 50 lap feature races. Adult
