RAIN SHORTENS NIGHT OF RACING
AT JENNERSTOWN SPEEDWAY
COLARUSSO, GERMEK VISIT VICTORY LANE BEFORE
SKIES OPEN
(Jennerstown, PA) For the second consecutive
week, rain forced the cancellation of racing in
the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series at Jennerstown
Speedway.
However, fans did not walk away empty handed.
Feature races in the Jennerstown Speedway Street
Stocks and Charger divisions were snuck in
before the evening’s races were suspended.
In the Street Stock feature, West Mifflin, PA’s
Dink Colarusso won his second feature in two
starts at the Laurel Highlands Oval. Colarusso
took the lead on the fourth lap and held it for
over a dozen more. Roger Onstead took the lead
with a few laps remaining. But Onstead drifted a
bit high in the final laps giving Colarusso the
opportunity to slip under, pass for the lead
with one lap remaining and go on to win the
feature. Colarusso and Onstead were followed by
Bill Ashton, June Weyant and Jason Holder in the
top five. Dink Colarusso was also the heat race
winner.
The Jennerstown Speedway Charger division saw
one of its up and coming rookie drivers, Chantal
Germek, survive numerous cautions to visit
victory lane in a rain shortened feature. For
the majority of the race, Greg Praysner, Duane
Noel and Travis Smith were battling, sometimes
door to door, for the top position. As the race
reached its thirteenth lap, the weather started
to take its toll on the track and Praysner,
Smith and Noel all suffered spins as they tried
desperately to get the race restarted after the
caution flew.
As the rain increased in intensity, Jennerstown
race officials made the difficult decision to
end the race for safety concerns. North
Huntingdon, PA’s Germek had driven a marvelous
race, had avoided being involved in the numerous
cautions and was positioned at the front as the
pack crossed the finish line. Chantal Germek won
her first Charger feature race in two starts at
Jennerstown Speedway in 2003. She was followed
by Michael Stevens, Bruce Bond, Rick Phillips
and Phil Grubbs in the top five. Greg Praysner
won the heat race.
All other racing was suspended due to rain. For
a complete list of results, please visit

The Somerset Trust 75, a seventy five lap race
featuring the Rolling Rock Late Models
originally scheduled for this evening, will run
next Saturday in addition to the regular fifty
lap Late Model race and other scheduled races.
The other division features in the NASCAR Dodge
Weekly Series will be made up on dates to be
announced later.

SPEEDWAY! Please contact the Jennerstown
Speedway front office for information on media
credentials as well as an updated media kit for
the Laurel Highlands Oval.
If there is a silver lining in the Somerset
Trust 75 being postponed until next week, it
certainly helps Mark Cottone, Mark Smith, Rick
Boyer and Neil Brown. The four Late Model
drivers were involved in a pile-up during hot
laps. Some were able to partially repair their
vehicles, some went to backup cars and some
would have been eliminated from competition.
Now, they will now have a week to piece things
back together and try again next Saturday.
Race fans will be treated to a huge night of
racing next Saturday as the Rolling Rock Late
Models will be racing in two feature races
combining to a total 125 laps!
There are only two more Saturdays until
Jennerstown Speedway’s award winning television
program Chase to the Checkered returns to the
airwaves. It will make its debut in the
Pittsburgh television market on Saturday, June
7, 2003 at 8:30am on UPN 19. C2C will debut in
Johnstown on WJAC-TV on Saturday June 22, 2003
at 9:00am. For more information about Chase to
the Checkered, please visit the official web
site
