COUGHENOUR AND HENRY CELEBRATE FIRST WINS OF 2003 AT
JENNERSTOWN SPEEDWAY
5
July 2003
(Jennerstown, PA) Race fans celebrated Independence Day
weekend in grand style Saturday night as the racing at
the Laurel Highlands was as hot as the fireworks in the
night sky.
After
Jayme Bolkovac and Tommy Beck led the first 35 laps of
the Rolling Rock Late Model Feature, Bobby Henry took
the front spot and held onto it for the win. Henry took
advantage of a caution that involved Bolkovac and Barry
Awtey taking Awtey out of the race. Bobby Henry took the
lead on lap 36 and went on to take the checkered for the
first time in 2003. Henry was followed by Mark Cottone,
Tommy Beck, Mark Smith and Snooky Williams in the top
five. Mark Smith and Bobby Henry were the heat race
winners.
Current Rolling Rock Late Model division points leader
Neil Brown finished a disappointing seventh. This puts
his status of NASCAR Weekly Series Northeastern Division
Points lead in serious jeopardy.
Somerset’s Josh Coughenour also celebrated his first win
of 2003 as he took home the trophy in the Tommy Gale/Haulmark
Trailers Pro Truck Feature. Coughenour and Jason Lasky
battled door to door wowing fans for over a dozen laps
witn Coughenour’s front bumper crossing the finish line
a few feet in front of Lasky for the win. They were
followed by Eugene Ciferno, Marion Reno, Jr., and Derek
Wink in the top five finishers. Todd Price was the heat
race winner but he finished in last place in the feature
due to suspension problems causing him to relinquish the
division points lead to Jason Lasky.
In the
Jennerstown Speedway Modified division, Mike Bakalon
survived another rough feature race to capture his third
feature win of 2003. He was followed by Paul Urso, Matt
Panaia, Matt Smith and Jason Busch in the top five.
Bakalon was also the Modified heat race winner.
Dink
Colarusso continues to absolutely dominate the
Jennerstown Speedway Street Stocks. He took the lead
from Roger Onstead on lap 14 and went on to win his
eight feature win in nine races Saturday night.
Colarusso and Onstead were followed by June Weyant,
Billy Mostoller and Jason Fritz in the top five.
Colarusso was also the heat race winner.
Randleman, NC’s Mark Howard came to Pennsylvania and
drove off with the prize in the PA Legacy Series
feature. Howard took off with the lead from the pole
position and led every lap. In the pack, Brett Boyer got
past Jayme Bolkovac on lap 14 for second, but he simply
could not catch the southern driver. Howard, Boyer and
Bolkovac were followed by Kyle Martel and Lillington,
NC’s Adam Taylor in the top five. Brett’s brother Rick
Boyer and Mark Howard were the heat race winners.
The
Jennerstown Speedway Charger division has been one of
the most competitive divisions of the 2003 season at the
Laurel Highlands Oval and they did not disappoint the
crowd Saturday. While Phill “Hoss” Grubbs took off with
the early race lead, Duane Noel, Chantal Germek and Greg
Praysner fought valiantly for position behind Grubbs.
Grubbs drove a near perfect race and held the pack at
bay as he went on to win his second win in nine feature
races in 2003. Grubbs, Noel, Germek and Praysner were
followed by Scott Bowman in the top five. Greg Praysner
was the heat race winner.
Gregory Lohr was the winner of the Men’s Enduro feature.
