AWTEY CRUISES TO FOURTH
LATE MODEL WIN OF 2003
COLARUSSO INCHES CLOSER TO TRACK
RECORD AS POINT RACES TIGHTEN AT JENNERSTOWN SPEEDWAY
2
August 2003
(Jennerstown, PA) While there was lightning in the night
sky and thunder on the track, Dodge Motorsports
presentation of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series was
rain-free at Jennerstown Speedway Saturday night.
In the
Rolling Rock Late Models, Bobby Henry led the first 16
laps of the 50 lap feature. But Jenners, PA’s Barry
Awtey took the lead on lap 17, survived a late race
caution and went on to win the feature. Awtey and Henry
were followed by Neil Brown, Chuckie Keslar and Tommy
Beck in the top five. Brown and Awtey were the heat race
winners.
The
win moves Awtey to within two points of points leader
Neil Brown in the Rolling Rock Late Models point
standings.
In the
Tommy Gale/Haulmark Trailers Pro Trucks, Justin Lasky
crushed the competition as he moved up from the third
place starting slot to take the lead on lap 4 and move
out to a dominating lead and win. The Johnstown driver
was followed by Adam Kostelnik, Todd Price, Derek Wink
and Josh Coughenour in the top five. Lasky made it a
perfect sweep for the evening by taking the heat race
win.
The
Jennerstown Speedway Modified feature was a rough
contest. On lap 14, Mike Bakalon and Bob Bentz, Jr. made
contact coming out of turn 4 spinning Bakalon and taking
him out of the contest. Bentz passed Matt Smith on lap
22 and went on to win the feature. He and Smith were
followed by Paul Urso, Jason Busch and Brian Stephenson
in the top five.
The
sixth place finish cost Bakalon the Modifieds division
points lead. Paul Urso is now two points ahead of
Bakalon.
“Dink
Watch 2003” continues for another week at the Laurel
Highlands Oval. West Miflin, PA’s Dink Colarusso once
again visited victory lane in the Jennerstown Speedway
Street Stocks. His 12th win in 13 races moves
him closer to the Speedway record of 15 wins in a season
held by Steve Peles. Colarusso was followed by Roger
Onstead, Billy Mostoller, Jason Holder and Bobby Young
in the top five. Jeff Petrini was the heat race winner.
In the
Jennerstown Speedway Chargers, Greg Praysner and Mike
Stevens thrilled the Jennerstown crowd with a door to
door battle for the lead that lasted for the first half
of the feature. Praysner came out on top as Stevens rode
a little too high and lost his position. The win was the
fifth of 2003 for the Level Green, PA driver. Praysner
was followed by Duane Noel, Hoss Grubbs, Chantal Germek
and Mike Stevens. In addition to winning the feature as
well as winning the heat race, Greg Praysner also moved
to within six points of Charger division points leader
Chantal Germek.
The PA
Legacy Series will return to the Laurel Highlands Oval
this coming Saturday night.
The
Mens Enduro feature saw Johnstown’s Patrick Parlock take
the win. He was followed by Greg Lohr, Cory Snoeberger,
Bob Enos and Rick Smith in the top five.
Susan
Lambert piloted her car to victory lane in the Ladies
Enduro feature. She was followed by Amanda Zerfoss,
Robin Barnes and Renee Germek.
This
coming Saturday night, Wheeler Pontiac and Cadillac and
Wheeler Trackside present the racing of the NASCAR Dodge
Weekly Series and the PA Legacy Series at Jennerstown
Speedway. Once again, adult admission for the racing is
just $5 and children under 12 will be admitted for free.
Pit gates will open at 2PM, grandstand gates will open
