One
astonishing victory! What could be better than the
first win in front of all of your hometown family
and friends? Gordon, originally from DuBois, Pa,
takes the checkered flag in front of a hometown
crowd. It's the best feeling, to come home and get
my first win in a touring series. Next I get to go
to my current hometown track and try to do it again.
Man, I can't stress the amount of pressure that this
team was under. Our team owners, Johnny Dangerfield
and Troy Baird has put a lot of time and money in
this team and they want us to produce!
Well produce they
did! Gordon started 7th and maintained the fourth
and fifth spot for most of the night. He stated that
the car was a little tight in the first half, but
after the pit stop taking on four tires and an
adjustment, it was perfect. Gordon kept it clean and
tried to stay out of trouble while working his way
to the second position. With about 60 laps to go, he
set up for the pass on Clay Rogers and completed the
pass for the lead coming out of turn two. Gordon
continued the lead throughout the remainder of the
race sitting through one red flag and several
cautions.
It has been a long
tough road for Gordon and crew. Under the pressure
of knowing they needed to produce and knowing in the
back of their minds that they could, winning this
race was a huge relief. It was the big one, the
first one and it was in front of his original
hometown. A lot of emotions poured as the team and
family gathered in victory lane. Both of Gordon's
parents were there and a large following of Pa
friends.
This win moves
Gordon from the 14th position to the 5th position in
the point's standings. Gordon is also the leading
the points for the rookie of the year title for the
series. As the team is looking forward to their trip
to their current hometown track, Myrtle Beach, SC
they seem to be in a total different frame of mind.
Going in with the confidence that they have been
lacking all season, Gordon and crew finally have the
rights of being a USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series
Winner!
The team plans to
kick off the trip with a huge homecoming party
outside the gates of the speedway. Myrtle Beach has
a huge following of Benny Gordon fans making the
hour and a half trip to watch their long time local
hero compete for win number two.
