MITCHELL RETURNS TO JENNERSTOWN
BRUCETON MILLS, WV (May 9) .......... Following a run in the NASCAR BUSCH
Series in 2002, former Jennerstown (PA) Speedway track champion Richard
Mitchell will mark his return to the Laurel Highlands oval, by entering
the
75-lap NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series late model division contest
scheduled for Saturday, May 17.
The two-time NASCAR Northeast Region champion, who captured the
Jennerstown
track championship in 1999, won't be resting on his laurels when he takes
to
the paved half mile oval in his new Howard Concrete Pumping Chevrolet
Monte
Carlo.
"I've had a great deal of success at Jennerstown in the past," Mitchell
said,
"but you can throw past history out the window. Neil (Brown) is the king
of
the mountain right now, and we have to figure out a way to beat him."
Ironically Brown, who has won the past two Jennerstown track championship,
as
well as the first two races of the 2003 campaign, is wheeling the former
Mitchell-driven championship car. Mitchell, on the other hand, will be
competing in a car and motor package that his team purchased from Brown
two
weeks ago.
"Gets a little confusing," said Mitchell, "I was just kidding with Neil
the
other day that he sold us the wrong car!"
Due to the late start in putting a new team together, coupled with a
preliminary-race crash at Motordrome Speedway two weeks ago, Mitchell
finds
himself running behind schedule in preparing for his Jennerstown debut.
"I had hoped to test at Jennerstown prior to the race, but we won't have
time," Mitchell added. "The car was decent at Motordrome, but we are
going
to experiment with a number of different things for the 75 lapper at
Jennerstown. That should give us a base line for the longer distance
races
coming up later in the season.
Along with winning the 1999 Jennerstown track title, the Bruceton Mills
resident also won every extra-distance race staged in 2000. The West
Virginia University Mechanical Engineering graduate last competed in 2001,
winning one feature in a limited schedule.
In addition to Howard Concrete Pumping, associate Mitchell Racing
marketing
partners include: Turn Key Foundations, Tom Clark Chevrolet and
Competition
Transmission and Gear.
