MITCHELL LOOKING TO EXTEND EXTRA-DISTANCE RACE WIN STREAK

BRUCETON MILLS, WV (Jun 28) ........ West Virginia driver Richard Mitchell
will attempt to keep his NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series late model winning streak
alive when he competes in a pair of special extra-distance races over the next
two weekends.

Mitchell has gunned his Howard Concrete Pumping Chevrolet Monte Carlo to
consecutive big race victories at the Jennerstown and Motordrome (PA) Speedways,
and the two-time NASCAR Northeast region Weekly Series champion is looking to
carve a few more notches in his pistol.

The West Virginia University mechanical engineering grad surprised fans and
competitors alike by driving to a convincing victory over the vastly superior
fuel injected engines with his normally aspirated, carburetor-equipped,
powerplant in the recent 100-lap contest at Motordrome. Mitchell ran down the fuel
injection mount of Rick Miller 85-laps into the contest, then cruised to the
checkered flag.

Mitchell is looking for a similar set of circumstances coming into the July 4
Tom Clark Auto Family 'Firecracker' 150. "That is pretty much our game plan
for the 150," Mitchell said, "we can't run with the crate (fuel injected)
motors for the short haul, but I feel we can run them down during the second half
of the race. During the 100-lapper our car was just as fast at the end as it
was at the beginning. That is the key to winning long distance races....... if
we can accomplish the same consistency in the 150, we have a shot at being in
victory lane."

The former NASCAR BUSCH and ARCA RE/MAX series' competitor is just as
confident going into the rain-postponed Wheeler Bros. AC Delco 100 at Jennerstown
Speedway on July 12.

Mitchell captured a 75-lap contest there in May, and is scheduled to start
third on the grid after qualifying with a time of 19.41 seconds around the half
mile Laurel Highlands oval on June 21.

"We struggled a bit during the hot lap session prior to qualifying at
Jennerstown," added Mitchell, "but the car felt good during the time trial run. We
are throwing a lot of different set-ups at this particular chassis to see what
is going to work the best. Again, consistency is going to decide the race
winner at Jennerstown. I feel we have a strong car."
