MITCHELL SET FOR JENNERSTOWN / MOTORDROME DOUBLE FEATURES

BRUCETON MILLS, WV  (JULY 4)  .......  Thanks to Mother Nature, West Virginia driver Richard Mitchell will be working overtime on the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Jennerstown/Motordrome late model circuit next weekend.

A severe thunderstorm following hot laps washed out the scheduled Friday running of the Tom Clark Auto Group 'Firecracker' 150 at the half-mile paved Motordrome (PA) Speedway.  The 150-lap event has been rescheduled to be run next Friday (July 11), in addition to the track's regularly scheduled 40-lap feature attraction.

There will be little rest for the two-time NASCAR Northeast region champion, as he is scheduled to compete in two contests the following evening at the Jennerstown (PA) Speedway.  Mitchell will start his Howard Concrete Pumping Chevrolet Monte Carlo from the third spot in the Wheeler Bros. AC Delco 100, and will return later in the night to race in the 50-lap nightcap.

"That is a lot of racing crammed into two nights," Mitchell said, "but I'm looking forward to running.  We're doing a limited schedule this season, so it should be fun to run a couple of extra races.  The crew will have to burn the midnight oil switching the car around.  The only downside is that we only have one car and one motor, but we won a couple of Northeast titles running under  the same circumstances, so we should be all right."

While he wouldn't make any predictions, Mitchell appeared confident about his chances both nights.  "The car felt very stable in practice at Motordrome...... we weren't as quick as the fuel injected-equipped cars," Mitchell added, "but I think we'll have something to say as the race unwinds.  The 40-lap race is a tossup.  I'm not racing for points this year, so we'll just do the best we can under the prevailing rules."

"I think we have a handle on the chassis setup for this car at Jennerstown," Mitchell concluded, "at least we're on an equal playing field racing against similar carburetor-equipped cars.  That alone makes it much easier to be competitive."
