Pennsylvania Standout Travis Geisler Makes Series Debut in Home State

One of stock car racing’s rising stars, Travis Geisler, is expanding his 2003 schedule to include two American Speed Association (ASA) Racing Series events with Country Joe Racing. He will be the teammate to current ASA point’s leader Kevin Cywinski.

The 22 year-old Pittsburgh native will make his debut in the No. 15 Great Clips Chevrolet at Jennerstown Speedway in Jennerstown, Pa. on August 16. Cochran Automotive and Minton & Sons Custom Home Builders will be additional sponsors for the event weekend. He is also scheduled to compete in the CITGO/MDA 250 at Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Ind. on September 20th.

"We are pleased to be able to put a young driver of Travis’ caliber in the car,” said Dick Melius, team manger and manager of marketing and promotion for Country Joe Racing. "He's incredibly well-rounded, a proven winner on the short tracks and has been strong on the speedways this year. He and I first met at Jennerstown a year ago, and it’s great to see the relationship coming full circle."

Geisler posted seven wins in 22 Super Late Model starts in 2002 and has been a solid top-ten runner as a rookie on various speedways in the Southeast and Midwest Touring Series this summer. The addition of ASA races will bring him one step closer to his aspirations of competing full time in a top touring series.

“ASA is the best short track series in the country and will give me the chance to show people my capabilities,” said Geisler, a recent graduate with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Vanderbilt University. “I have always run my own team, but this is going to really let me focus on driving and learning the ASA cars with their radial tires and unique engine package. Working with Bond Suss (2002 ASA Champion crew chief) is a huge positive.”

While the team is not scheduled to test at Jennerstown, Travis will be able to shake the car down at Elko Speedway in Elko, Minn. prior to making his series debut.

ASA returns to Jennerstown Speedway for the Pennsylvania 250 on Saturday, August 16, with the first of two practice sessions beginning at 11:30. Pole qualifying is set for 3:30 p.m. with ASA’s on-track fan autograph session and live musical entertainment scheduled for 6. Pre-race ceremonies are set for 7 with the Pennsylvania 250 going green at 7:30 p.m. (EDT)

Tickets are available through the Jennerstown Speedway office at $25 for general admission seats. Discounts are available when purchasing in advance. Call the track office at 814-629-6677.
