ASA’s “ Pennsylvania Portion”
is perfect for Kittleson
CONCORD, N.C. -- It’s time to
hit the Keystone State and rookie competitor Travis Kittleson is hoping to
find the right key to unlock victory lane for the first time in his brief
ASA career. The blossoming young driver is looking forward to the upcoming
“Pennsylvania Portion” of the ASA schedule. The series travels to two
different events in the state on consecutive weekends. The first comes this
Saturday (August 16) at Jennerstown Speedway and then on Sunday, September
24 th at the brand new Lake Erie Speedway.
“This is the perfect time for us to do some catching up in the point
standings,” said Kittleson. “These are two really nice tracks and ones that
we seem to run well at. Even though I haven’t run in a competitive race at
either one of them, we have tested at both, so that should hopefully put us
ahead of most of these drivers.”
Kittleson tested at Jennerstown a couple of weeks ago and tested at Lake
Erie this past week.
Jennerstown, located in the rolling hills of central Pennsylvania , is a
semi-banked standard half-mile track. Kittleson has found success on the
tracks that match the layout of Jennerstown so far during his 2003 rookie
season. Travis finished a career best third at the half-mile Toledo Speedway
earlier in the year. He also qualified and ran in the top-10 much of the day
at Hawkeye Downs Speedway before falling back with mechanical problems.
At the half-mile Mansfield Motorsports Speedway (OH), another new track to
the ASA schedule in 2003, Kittleson appeared to have the fastest car on the
track, but a late race bump by Robbie Pyle pushed Kittleson out of
contention for the win and back to fourth place when the checkered flag
flew.
ASA will make its debut at the brand new, state-of-the-art Lake Erie
Speedway the week after the Jennerstown event. The .375-mile track is the
same size as both Houston Motor Speedway and Lanier National Speedway.
Kittleson finished eighth after starting eighth in Houston and qualified an
impressive fourth at Lanier.
“We will definitely be able to take some of the things we learned in the
races so far this year and apply it to our car at each of those tracks, but
nothing helps as much as testing does. I really think this team has come
together well and we will be a factor at both of those tracks.
“I really like going to a new track because all the veterans don’t have
years and years of notes and experience to fall back on. As a rookie, when
we are at a new track, we are all on the same level. In fact, we may be up
on some of the veterans just because we tested there.
The Pennsylvania 250 will take the green at 9 pm (Eastern) and will be seen
LIVE on SPEED Channel. The Erie 250 will take the green on Sunday, August 24
at 2 p.m. (Eastern) and will also be seen at 5 p.m. on SPEED Channel.
Despite the team’s top-six position in the point standings, they are still
looking for sponsorship to help them in their quest for the 2003 ASA
National Championship and Rookie of the Year title. For inquiries, call the
team at 321-693-6700 and be sure to visit traviskittleson.com for more
