MARK COTTONE WINS NATURALLY FRESH LATE MODEL CHALLENGE SERIES

Jennerstown, PA – October 5, 2002 – A trio of stock car drivers were crowned winners during the final race night of the 2002 Jennerstown Speedway racing season. It was Mardy Lindley holding off the hard charging field of competitors to claim the win in the “Charlie Campbell Memorial Miller Lite 250” presented by Hooters ProCup Series Racing Game, the second race of the Four Champions Championship playoff series. Lindley is hot on the trail to capture his first USAR Hooters ProCup Series championship, as he now unofficially leads the points battle by a one point margin over Bobby Gill.

In the final race of the Naturally Fresh Late Model Challenge Series, it was Neil Brown capturing the race win and Mark Cottone claiming the Series Championship.  The first half of the “Honey Mustard Dressings” 50-lap event turned out to be a two-car battle between Mark Smith and Neil Brown.  In the second half of the race, Brad Creighton made an impressive run to move into second position and quickly began to close the gap with the race leader.  By lap 45, Creighton was on the back bumper of Brown, as the two drivers worked their way by lapped traffic.  On the final lap of the race, Creighton attempted one last pass, but in the end had to settle for second.  Finishing behind the top two drivers were Mark Smith, Barry Awtey and Rick Boyer.

Mark Smith won the R&M Trucking Fast Time Award.  Michael Bernard of Pittsburgh, PA was paired with race winner Neil Brown in the fan favorite Spectator $500 contest and picked up the $500 prize.

Mark Cottone finished the race in seventh position and captured the Naturally Fresh Late Model Challenge Series Championship by a mere nine points over second place finisher Neil Brown.  Barry Awtey finished third while Mark Smith finished fourth and Rick Miller finished fifth.

The final two events of the 2002 season will be a Racers Flea Market to be held at the track on October 19, 2002 and the 3rd Annual Awards Banquet to be held at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel on November 30, 2002.  For Banquet information contact the speedway office at 814.629.6677 or log onto www.jennerstown.com
