MITCHELL LOOKING
FOR LOWE'S WIN
BRUCETON MILLS, WV (Oct. 4)......... West Virginia driver
Richard Mitchell's
ARCA RE/MAX Series track record at Lowe's Motor Speedway has
shown a
consistent, upward spiral.
In fact, if the two-time NASCAR Northeast Region Weekly Racing
Series
champion improves his performance by only five positions in the
Oct. 10 Easy
Care 150, Mitchell will end up just where he wants to be......
in victory
lane.
"I got off to a rough start at Lowe's in my initial ARCA race,"
Mitchell
said. "I only ran about 10 laps last year before I got involved
in an
accident. I ran 10th last fall, then came back in the spring
this year to
finish fifth."
Mitchell attributes his Lowe's success to getting the proper
chassis setup
under his Coach USA / Mountaineer Gaming / West Virginia "Wild
and Wonderful"
Pontiac Grand Prix, and gaining seat time driving on the 1.5
mile tri-oval.
"Lowe's is probably the trickiest track on the ARCA circuit from
a drivers
perspective," said the West Virginia University graduate.
"First off, you
have to drive each end of the track differently. The real
secret is to come
up with a setup that permits you to race low through the bumps
in turns three
and four and be able to carry your speed on to the dog leg
section. Lowe's
is also the most weather-sensitive track we race at," Mitchell
added. "A
single cloud passing overhead can change the entire handling
characteristic
of your car."
"Experience plays a big factor at Lowe's," Mitchell concluded.
"The more laps
you turn...... the more comfortable you become. That in turn
allows you to
relay more information to your crew regarding suspension setup."
