MITCHELL
FINISHES 10th AT LOWE'S
CONCORD, NC (Oct.11) .......Following a one day
rain-postponement, Richard
Mitchell drove his Coach USA / Mountaineer Gaming / West
Virginia "Wild and
Wonderful" Pontiac Grand Prix to a 10th place in Friday
afternoon's Easy Care
100 ARCA RE/MAX Series event at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Mitchell, forced to start 32nd in the field after officials
canceled
Wednesday's qualifying session, charged into the top-10 by the
midpoint of
the race, but made a critical decision to make a pit stop and
give up track
position.
"We made up a lot of ground in the early going, but the car
started to get
real loose in turn three," Mitchell said, "so we came in to get
fuel, put on
four tires and make a chassis adjustment. That helped the car,
but many of
the leaders gambled and didn't make a pit stop. There were
enough caution
laps today to make that strategy work. These short races are a
crap
shoot..... sometimes not pitting is the right call, and
sometimes it isn't.
When they cut the race distance by 50 miles, we knew we had our
work cut out
for us, starting as far back as we were."
The West Virginia driver was able to eventually work his way
back into the
top 10 during the waning laps of the race.
"We'll take a top-10 finish today," Mitchell added, "after being
cool all
week, the track got slick in the race, and traffic was a real
issue,
particularly on restarts. It got a little wild out there at
times."
Mitchell and the Coach USA team will return to the NASCAR BUSCH
Series when
they tackle the tricky one-mile North Carolina Speedway
(Rockingham) on Nov.
2.
