MITCHELL PLACES
34TH AT NASHVILLE
LEBANON, TN (June 8)… Richard Mitchell's luck at the Nashville
Superspeedway
can be summed up in one word…bad.
The West Virginia driver finished a disappointing 34th in
Saturday evening's
running of the NASCAR Busch Series Inside Traxx 300 after
crashing his Coach
USA/Mountaineer Gaming/West Virginia Tourism Monte Carlo in the
163rd lap.
“I really don't know what happened,” Mitchell said. I was
racing Ron
Hornaday and Jamie McMurray coming through turns three and four
and all of a
sudden, the back end just jumped out from under me. The car hit
both front
and back…it's pretty much toast."
The crash was the culmination of a long and frustrating weekend
for the Mac
Hill Motorsports team. After a myriad of mechanical problems on
Friday, the
crew was forced to change the entire electrical system on the
car prior to
the race.
Things didn't get any better in the race itself, as a quick spin
coming off
turn two shortly after the drop of the green flag put the
two-time NASCAR
Northeast Region champion several laps down. "The car was
hateful loose at
the beginning. I was trying to ride it out until the first pit
stop, but we
didn't make it," Mitchell said. “After that, the car wasn't too
bad…we were
able to work our way up to 29th place before the second crash.”
"I feel bad for the crew. They worked nonstop to get this car
running
right," Mitchell concluded. “We'll just have to put it behind
us and get
ready to run the ARCA RE/MAX race at Michigan next week.”
Mitchell's next Busch Series event is scheduled for the
Chicagoland Speedway
on July 13th. |
