MOTHER NATURE WINS TWO IN A ROW AT JENNERTOWN SPEEDWAY
by: Mike Milliron
Jennerstown, PA- July 7, 2001 – Jennerstown Speedway officials
were forced to postpone the already rescheduled July 4th D.C.
Guelich presentation of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series program
Saturday evening at the Laurel Highlands Oval, when persistent
rain showers once again foiled the nights racing activities.
Before the rains took charge, the Speedway was able to hold
qualifying for the Wheeler Bros./ AC Delco Late Model division,
as well as heat races for the remaining four divisions. The
feature races for each racing division have been rescheduled
once again, this time for July 28th, when the Jennerstown
Speedway will offer race fans a token of their appreciation by
providing adult admission at the reduced price of just $5.00
dollars. For that reduced price, race fans will get to see a
seventy five-lap Wheeler Bros./ AC Delco Late Model race, along
with a fifty-lap Cover Insurance Agency/PA Legacy Car feature,
plus regular racing in the remaining three racing divisions, and
a Mens Enduro to finish off the nights action.
In Wheeler Bros./AC Delco Late Model division qualifying, it was
Mark “The Meyersdale Missile” Smith once again claiming the
“Fast Time Award”, along with the $1,000 dollar check presented
by Jennerstown Speedway and R&M Trucking and Brokerage Services.
This makes Smith three-for-three in capturing “Fast Time Awards”
during the 2001 racing season. Other drivers who qualified in
the top five, and paired up with five ‘Spectator 500’ race fan
contestants were Barry Awtey, Travis Geisler, Neil Brown, and
Jeff Dunmyer. The ‘Spectator 500’ will also carry over to the
July 28th rescheduled event.
The next event on the Jennerstown Speedway schedule will be the
return of the USAR Hooters ProCup Series, when this exciting
Touring Series comes back to the Laurel Highlands Oval to
present the “Lucas Oil 250”. Race fans in attendance will be
treated to some of the finest short track drivers from across
the country, as they race door-to-door for 250 laps in the
finest fashion, short track style!
Drivers like Brian Vickers, Mardy Lindley, Bill Plemons Jr.,
Jeff Agnew, and Donnie Hill are just a couple of the Hooters
ProCup Northern Division drivers who will be challenging for the
win. This race will also feature some of the most experienced
Hooters ProCup Southern Division drivers in their first visit to
Jennerstown Speedway. Fans will get to see short track racing
legends like two-time defending Series Champion Bobby Gill,
along with Hal Goodson, Jay Fogleman, Shane Huffman, Jason
Sarvis, and Steven Christian on the track, in a preview of the
September 29th Champions Championship Showdown!
Sunoco Pole Qualifying starts on Saturday at 5 PM, with an
autograph session beginning at 6 PM. The command to ‘Start Your
Engines’ for the “Lucas Oil 250” will be given at 7 PM, with the
Wheeler Bros./ AC Delco Late Model feature race, and a fantastic
fireworks display to immediately follow the conclusion of the
USAR Hooters ProCup Series event. Adult grandstand admission for
this spectacular night of stock car action is only $20 dollars,
with young adults 12-15 admitted for just $10 dollars, and kids
under twelve get in for FREE!
