Smith Wins Late Model Feature at Jennerstown Speedway

Jennerstown, PA - July 14, 2001 - It was as close a race as
you could imagine between race winner Jeff Agnew and
runner-up Brian Vickers as the two drivers fought all the
way to the checkered flag, with the winning margin being
only .111 seconds, during the USAR Hooters Procup Series
presentation of the "Lucas Oil 250" Saturday night at
Jennerstown Speedway. In the support race it was Mark Smith
taking the win, along with capturing the "Fast Time Award"
and a $1,000 dollar check, to make it a complete victory
package for the Meyersdale, PA native.
Once Smith established himself as the dominant racecar, he
wasted little time in claiming, then maintaining the top
position throughout the entire fifty-lap event. The only
serious challenges came on restarts, where eventual second
place finisher Neil Brown managed to get within a few car
lengths of the race winner's rear bumper. Finishing behind
Brown in third through fifth were Barry Awtey, Bobby Henry,
and Mark Cottone. This was a non-points paying event, so all
of the drivers in competition had to settle for the racing
experience, and their purse money to satisfy their love of
speed.
