BOBBY HENRY AND
STACY PURYEAR SCORE WINS DURING HOOTERS
PROCUP "NATURALLY FRESH 200" PRESENTED BY ROLLING ROCK
|
Jennerstown, PA - April 21, 2001 - Jennerstown
Speedway did not allow bad weather reports to dampen
their determination to host the inaugural United
Speed Alliance Racing Hooters ProCup Series event at
the Laurel Highlands Oval Saturday night. The
"Naturally Fresh 200" presented by Rolling Rock Beer
was a rousing success, with Stacy Puryear of South
Boston, Virginia taking his first Series win, with a
fine performance in front of a grandstand filled
with dedicated, high spirited race fans. Donnie Hill
put on a tough fight to hold off Mike Herman Jr., in
claiming the runner-up position. Mardy Linley and
Mart Nesbitt rounded out the fantastic top five. The
Series will return to Jennerstown Speedway on July
14th, to once again put on another fine display of
racing action.
In Wheeler Bros./AC Delco Late Model Division
action, it was Connellsville, PA native Bobby Henry
putting his Davies Ford out front with a comfortable
lead throughout most of the fifty-lap race, to claim
his first win of the 2001 racing season. Henry
started the race from the sixth position, and
quickly moved into second around Neal Brown on lap
two. He paced himself behind early race leader and
pole sitter Mark Smith, until he made his move for
the lead on lap sixteen. Once out front Henry
continued to pull away from the rest of the field,
all the way to the checkered flag. Awtey maintained
second to the finish, with Neil Brown finishing
third. Mark Smith and Jeff Dunmyer came home in
fourth and fifth respectively.
Mark Smith of Meyersdale, PA won the first Fast Time
Award, sponsored by R&M Brokerage & Trucking. The
next "Spectator 500" and Fast Time Award will by
held on May 26th, when Pepsi presents Spring
Championships at Jennerstown Speedway.
The first of seven "Spectator 500" events was held
in conjunction with the Wheeler Bros./AC Delco
fifty-lap feature, and Brian Hood of Rector, PA was
the lucky race fan who was paired with race winner
Bobby Henry. He was very happy with Bobby's
performance in victory lane, and said that his wife
would be even happier with the $500 dollars.
Regular racing resumes next Saturday when Bezell Oil
presents five division racing, plus the remainder of
the Wheeler Bros./AC Delco rain postponed feature
from opening night action.
