JENNERSTOWN
SPEEDWAY OPENER PARTIALLY FOLDS TO RAIN
|
Jennerstown, PA –April 14, 2001- The Jennerstown
Speedway season opening night NASCAR Weekly Racing
Series program was partially postponed, due to
intermittent rain showers Saturday night, during
Boswell Lumber Company race night. The Speedway was
able to complete all heat races, along with two of
the five feature races, before the rains came on
strong enough to foil the remainder of the program.
Speedway officials have rescheduled the three
uncompleted divisional feature races for other race
dates within the next four weeks. They include the
Wheeler Bros./AC Delco Late Model, Brown Timber and
Land Street Stock, and the Pro Truck division races.
The Jennerstown Charger division was the first
feature event of the 2001 NASCAR Weekly Racing
Series to run at the Laurel Highlands Oval. Justin
Lasky led the first portion of the race, able to
hold off the early challenge from June Wyant. As
Lasky attempted to put a slower car a lap down, he
lost control of his racer and was collected by Mike
Davis from further back in the pack. The accident
forced both racers from the event. Jason Holder
inherited the lead, and maintained it throughout the
remainder of the race to claim his first feature win
of the season. June Wyant crossed the line in
second, with Greg Praysner, Jeff Petrini, and Jason
Fritz rounding out the top five.
In the Cover Insurance Agency/PA Legacy Car Division
it was defending champion Jayme Bolkovac picking up
right where she left off last season, with a
dominating performance and a race win. She started
the race from the outside pole, and quickly asserted
herself into the lead over Rick Boyer, and the
remainder of the race field. Boyer came right back
to run side-by-side with Bolkovac for a couple of
laps, until the two made contact in turn four,
sending Boyer into a spin towards the inside
retaining wall. Will Thomas next challenged
Bolkovac, then it was Ricky Anderson’s turn.
Bolkovac held off all comers and took the win,
Thomas finished in second, while Rick Boyer made an
amazing march through the field to finish in third.
Anderson and Marshall Biddington closed out the top
five.
Next weeks event will be the United Speed Alliance
Racing (USAR) Hooters ProCup Series "Naturally Fresh
200" presented by Rolling Rock Beer. The Wheeler
Bros./AC Delco Late Model division will also be on
tap to make a great two division show for the fans.
