MITCHELL
TO USE EVERNHAM’S CREW FOR ARCA DEBUT
Waynesburg, PA (May 9) ... When Automobile Racing Club of
America (ARCA)
RE/MAX series rookie Richard Mitchell rolls his Mac Hill
Motorsports/ Forest
River Motorhomes Pontiac to the grid for the May 19 Easy Care
100 at the
Lowe’s Motor Speedway (Charlotte, NC), you’ll have to pardon him
if he feels
a bit like a new bride.
After all, just like any new bride, Mitchell well have
“something old,
something new, something borrowed, and something blue” going
into the Lowe’s
contest.
‘Old’ is Mitchell’s crew chief - elder brother Chris - and the
remainder of
his family-based team members. It’s this team who helped him
win two
consesecutive NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Northeast region
championships, as
well as track titles at the Jennerstown and Motordrpme (PA)
Speedways.
‘New’ for Mitchell is the Mac Hill Motorsports team, owned by
Waynesburg
businessman Jack McNelly. “Jack (McNelly) has spared no expense
in building
a first-class team for the ARCA series,” Mitchell said. “Now
it’s up to me
to get the job done.”
‘Borrowed’ will be eight members of the Ray Evernham Motorsports
NASCAR
Winston Cup pit crew, who normally service the cars of Bill
Elliott and Casey
Atwood. Evernham is best known for engineering three Winston
Cup
championships for NASCAR superstar Jeff Gordon, before leaving
last year to
spearhead a new stock program for the Daimler-Chrysler Dodge
division.
“Pit stops are often the difference between winning and losing a
race,”
commented Mitchell about using the Evernham crew to pit his ARCA
car. “I
feel my regular crew can get the job done, but using Ray’s guys
will give us
a little advantage. Being a rookie, I’ll need every advantage I
can get in
my first race,” Mitchell added.
And the ‘blue’? That one’s easy. That is the color of
Mitchell’s Mac Hill
Pontiac Grand Prix!
Mitchell, a West Virginia University mechanical engineering
graduate will
compete in eight to ten ARCA RE/MAX races durintg the 2001
season.
Mitchell’s next race will take place at the two-mile Michigan
International
Speedway on June 9.
