MITCHELL SET FOR ‘FIRST’ MICHIGAN ARCA RACE |
Waynesburg, PA (June 1) ... Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA)
RE/MAX
Series driver Richard Mitchell will experience a number of
'firsts’ going
into the June 9 running of the Flagstone 200 at the Michigan
International
Speedway.
For starters, Mitchell’s first view of the 2.0 mile
superspeedway will be
when he pulls his Coach USA /Forest River Motorhomes Pontiac
onto the track
for the initial practice session.
“I have never seen the Michigan track,” stated Mitchell, a
two-time NASCAR
Weekly Racing Series Northeast Regional champion. “We were
unable to make
the open ARCA testing date there, so our first laps will be
prior to the
qualifying session on Thursday (June 7).”
Another first for Mitchell will be the fact that he will attempt
to place his
back-up car in the Michigan race, after damaging his primary
entry in a crash
at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on May 19.
“I will be driving a Pontiac Grand Prix that Mac Hill
Motorsports recently
purchased from NASCAR Winston Cup owner Bill Davis,” Mitchell
added. “It’s
a good car - in fact, Scott Wimmer actually led last Fall’s
Atlanta race
driving the car. Our problem is that we haven’t been able to
test with this
particular car. My first time behind the wheel will be at
Michigan.”
Mitchell will be hoping to improve on his 26th place finish in
his ARCA debut
at Lowe’s. The Bruceton Mills, West Virginia native qualified
20th, and was
rapidly making his way to the front when he was eliminated in a
grinding
chain-reaction accident on lap nine.
“Lowe’s was a disappointment,” Mitchell concluded. “The car felt
great,
and I believe we were headed for a solid top-ten finish run the
first time
out. The crash has set us back a bit, but we should be all right
for
Michigan.”
Following Michigan, Mitchell’s next ARCA race will take place at
the Pocono
Raceway, Long Pond, Pa. on June 16.
The June 9 Michigan race will be televised on a same-day tape
delay basis on
Fox Sports Net beginning at 4:00 PM
