WINTSON-SALEM, N.C., (July 9, 2001) -- Hal Goodson and his
Taylor
Motorsports team will head north this weekend to compete in the
USAR ProCup Series Northern Division race at Jennerstown
Speedway in Jennerstown, Pa. this Saturday. Goodson is the
current points leader in USAR Southern Division standings.
The team will use the running of
the Lucas Oil 250 event as a test for when
it returns to the track in September for the running of the
"Four Champions
Challenge" race. |
"We wanted to run this race so we will have a baseline to work
with for when
we come back up here in September," Goodson said. "Since we
aren't running
for points in the Northern Division, our goal is to gain track
time and
learn what setup works best around the track."
Jennerstown Speedway is one of five dates on the "Four Champions
Challenge"
during the months of September, October and November. During
those five
events, the top-25 drivers in Southern and Northern Division
points will
converge on tracks in Illinois, Pennsylvania, South Carolina,
North Carolina
and Florida to determine the overall USAR ProCup Series 2001
Champion. The
Jennerstown Speedway "Four Champions Challenge" race is
scheduled for
September 28.
"It's important that we run this race this weekend so we know
where we're at
when we come back up here in September," Crew Chief Colan Ingle
said. "Our
goal is to win the race, but also to gain track and seat time."
Goodson heads into the Jennerstown event on a hot streak in USAR
ProCup
Series Southern Division action. In the first 10 events of the
season,
Goodson has scored two victories, six top-five and eight top-10
finishes,
along with three poles positions in the No. 45 Carlin Financial
Chevrolet
Monte Carlo for Taylor Motorsports.
USAR ProCup Series qualifying for the Lucas Oil 200 at
Jennerstown Speedway
is set for this Saturday at 5:00 p.m. EDT. The field gets the
green flag two
hours later at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
