MITCHELL UNDERGOES
KNEE SURGERY |
WAYNESBURG, PA (Dec. 27)...... ARCA RE/MAX Series driver Richard
Mitchell
(Bruceton Mills, WV) successfully completed arthroscopic knee
surgery over
the Christmas holidays.
Mitchell, a former two-time NASCAR Northeast Region champion,
had torn
ligaments in his right knee surgically repaired on Dec. 26.
"I tore up my knee playing basketball back in high school," said
Mitchell, a
West Virginia All-State selection during his senior season. "I
aggravated the
knee again this summer and it started to affect my driving, so I
decided to
finally have it fixed."
Since the knee does not require rehabilitation, Mitchell will be
ready for
the first ARCA event of the 2002 season, the Discount Auto Parts
200 at
Daytona Int. Speedway on Feb. 10.
"We missed the ARCA test sessions earlier this month, but we
still feel
pretty good going into our first Daytona race," Mitchell added.
"We've
improved our aerodynamic package, along with our motor program,
so we should
be ready to run up front."
Mitchell will drive the same Mac Hill Motorsports owned Coach
USA/Mountaineer
Gaming/Forest River Motorhomes Pontiac Grand Prix that carried
him to a fifth
place finish this past October at the Talladega Superspeedway.
Mitchell will announce his complete sponsor lineup and 2002
schedule in
January.
