MITCHELL PLACES FIRST - THIRD IN JENNERSTOWN TWIN 50s |
JENNERSTOWN,PA (Aug. 18)...... Defending NASCAR Northeast region
champion
Richard Mitchell paid an unexpected visit to Jennerstown
Speedway Saturday
evening and came home with first and third place finishes in the
twin-50 lap
feature contests sponsored by JLG Industries.
In the first contest Mitchell started seventh, after setting
second -fast
time of 19.42 in qualifying over the half mile paved oval.
However, the
Bruceton Mills, West Va. driver was plauged with handling
problems and
finished a close third behind Mark Smith and Bobby Henry.
"For some reason the car was hateful loose all during practice,"
Mitchell
said, "I could barely get on the throttle without the backend
coming around.
We made a number of changes for the race, but we still missed
the set-up a
bit."
It was a different story in the night cap, as Mitchell roared
from the
seventh- starting slot again to overhaul early pacesetter Barry
Awtey on lap
11. The 1999 Jennerstown track champion then drove away in his
Coors Light
Monte Carlo to finish in front of team mate Neil Brown.
"We had the car better for the second race," concluded Mitchell,
"we came up
here to get dialed-in for Jennerstown's big 200-lap Fall
Festival. I think we
made some progress."
Mitchell will return to ARCA RE/MAX series action on Sat., Sept
1, when he
competes at the new 1.5 mile Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet,
Ill.
