“The (Chicagoland) track is fast and wide like Michigan, but it
has much
higher banking in the turns. What makes the track different is
the curved
backstretch. Chicagoland promises to be the fastest track we
race on. If
the track has two racing grooves, it should be a wild show."
• Mitchell and the Coach USA/Mountaineer Gaming/Forest River
Motorhomes
team will attempt to get back on track at Chicagoland after
suffering a DNF
due to engine problems at Pocono Raceway on July 28.
• Mitchell finished fifth at Michigan International Speedway
on July 21 in
only his fourth ARCA start. The Bruceton Mills, West Virginia
driver was the
seventh-fastest qualifier at Pocono.
• Mitchell will utilize the same chassis he drove to a
fifth-place finish
at Michigan. The Pontiac Grand Prix is a former Bill Davis
Racing NASCAR
Winston Cup entry that was campaigned by Dave Blaney and Scott
Wimmer.
Wimmer led 15 laps during last Fall’s Atlanta Winston Cup event
with the car.
• Pittsburgh Post-Gazette motorsports writer Chris Dolack will
travel to
Chicagoland to do a feature story on Richard Mitchell and the
Coach USA team
for the newspaper. Dolack will be covering the race from a
different
viewpoint ... he will be an active member of the Mac Hill
Motorsports pit
crew. “I've covered many races from the press box and media
center,”
Dolack said., “But I want to give our readers a perspective of
what it feels
like being in the trenches.”
• Mitchell turns author! The West Virginia University
mechanical
engineering graduate has agreed to write a series of articles
for Dick
Berggren’s Speedway Illustrated magazine. The articles will be
aimed at
helping short-track racers who are struggling in their attempt
to climb the
racing ladder of success.
• Mitchell will compete in three more ARCA RE/MAX series
events following
Chicagoland. The two-time defending NASCAR Northeast region
champion will
race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway (Oct. 4), Talladega Superspeedway
(Oct. 20) and
Atlanta Motor Speedway (Nov. 17).
