The PA Legacy Series, sponsored by
Cover Insurance, opened it’s 2001 racing season at Motordrome
Speedway on Friday, April 13, 2001 in grand style. With a full
field of cars on hand, the action was sure to be exciting. The
heat race, which was won by Jayme Bolkovac, had 3 wide racing in
the middle of the pack. The feature event had Rick Boyer jump
out to an early lead with Jayme Bolkovac chasing him down. On
lap 15, Bolkovac caught him and started the side by side racing
that is all too familiar to the Legacy Series. This action
continued until the checkered flag with Bolkovac edging Boyer
out by inches at the line. Rounding out the top 5 were Will
Thomas, Marshall Biddington and Bill Miller. Jayme Bolkovac was
the first female driver ever to win at Motordrome Speedway.
On Saturday, April 14, 2001, the
PA Legacy Series was lucky to dodge the weather at the
Jennerstown Speedway. The heat races were won by Rick Boyer
and Bill Miller. In the feature, the action picked up where it
left off the night before with Jayme Bolkovac and Rick Boyer in
side by side action. Bill Miller was in a solid 3rd
place until Will Thomas ran him down and passed him on lap 8.
The caution flag was shown on lap 16 for a spin in turn 4 by
rookie Chris Brink. After the restart, the side by side action
resumed and continued until lap 20 when Rick Boyer spun coming
out of turn 4. Also involve were Todd Peck who went for a wild
ride and hit the inside wall and Art McElhinney. On the
restart, Bolkovac jumped out front and stayed there to see the
checkered flag once again making it 2 in a row for the defending
PA Legacy Champion. Will Thomas finished 2nd with
Rick Boyer making a hard charge from the back with only 5 laps
to go and finishing 3rd. Substitute driving for Ed
Boyer, Ricky Anderson finished 4th and Marshall
Biddington rounded out the top 5.
The PA Legacy Series, sponsored
by Cover Insurance, will have the next weekend off. Racing
resumes on Saturday, April 28, 2001 at Jennerstown Speedway.
