Jennerstown, PA - The Jennerstown Speedway will once again reverberate
with the sounds of Busch North Series, NASCAR Touring division racing
action this Saturday June 17th, 2000, as the drivers and teams gear up
for their visit to the Laurel Highlands Oval for 150 laps of racing
sponsored by Burnham Boilers and Carquest Auto Parts.
This year marks the fourteenth anniversary of a win-win relationship
between the Jennerstown Speedway and one of the finest touring divisions
in all of motorsports. Nearly all of the drivers and race teams hail
Jennerstown as their favorite destination for fantastic competition, and
the Speedway management and race fans welcome their neighbors from the
North East with open arms. While this is the farthest stop away from the
comfort of the New England region, these drivers always make sure to
save plenty of energy for putting on one of the finest racing events of
the season here in Western Pennsylvania.
"All of our teams love coming to Jennerstown Speedway. The tracks size
and layout seem to be tailor made for thrilling Busch North Series
racing," said Series Director David Baker. "Of course, if we could just
have the Speedway a little bit closer to our area, it would really be
great," he said.
Last season it was Tracy Gordon capturing the first of three race wins
of the 1999 season at Jennerstown, which helped to propel him into a
second place finish in the series points championship. The Strong, Maine
native will be back on June 17th and is excited about his chances to win
again at Jennerstown Speedway. Gordon will once again be behind the
wheel of the green and white Tic-Tac sponsored Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
"We feel really good, we have a good set-up for Jennerstown. We will be
bringing our Loudon car, which we feel is our best car. We were able to
get the Busch Pole last year, along with wining the race, so naturally
we are looking forward to defending our Jennerstown win," said Tracy
Gordon. "We have had one win and three top three finishes in the first
four races of the 2000 season so far, but the competition in this
division is very tough. With drivers like Dale Shaw, Brad Leighton, and
Dave Dion you have to be ready to battle right down to the finish for
every position," he said.
Joining these regular series competitors at Jennerstown will be the 1999
NASCAR Weekly Racing Series North East Region champion, Richard
Mitchell. The Bruceton Mills, West Virginia native will once again make
the jump from a local Late Model car, into a Busch North Series racecar.
Mitchell will first try to better his eighth place qualifying efforts
from his debut in last years race, then attempt to finish higher than
his seventh place posting in the 1999 Burnham Boilers 150.
The Lowe’s Late Models will also be in action with a 100-lap feature
event, plus Pro Truck and Street Stock features. This promises to be one
night of racing that will be remembered for a long time to come.
