GARY ST. AMANT TAKES POLE FOR SUNDAY'S ASA PENNSYLVANIA 300
Jennerstown, PA (August 5, 2000) - Current ASA ACDelco Series
championship points leader Gary St. Amant of Columbus, OH,
captured the pole for Sunday's Pennsylvania 300 at Jennerstown
Speedway. It was St. Amant's third pole of the season, 23rd of
his career and fifth time to start from the point in 2000. ASA
started teams on points at two events this season after
qualifying was rained out.
St. Amant's #7 Wynn's Chevrolet posted time of 19.125 sec./
98.259 mph was short of his one lap track record set in 1997.
"I'm a little surprised we did that well although it was a
smooth day from the start after taking our car off the trailer,"
St. Amant said. "After trying different shock combinations and
springs, we settled on something and obviously hit on it at the
end. My crew chief (Bill McGowan) deserves a lot of credit."
Mike Garvey, of Minnesota, qualified second in the # 1 Tecumseh
Chevrolet with rookie Joey Clanton of Georgia taking the third
position. It marks the sixth time for Garvey to qualify for the
front-row and the best-ever for Clanton in his rookie ASA
campaign. Garvey is the defending champion in this event.
Neil Brown of Acme, PA, was the lone Keystone State competitor
to lock into the starting grid for the Pennsylvania 300
following timed-qualifying. Jayme Burgman of White Oak has an
opportunity during a qualifying race held Saturday night at the
track.
Spectator gates open at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning with an
on-track fan autograph session set for 11 a.m. The green flag is
set for 1 p.m. (Eastern) on the Pennsylvania 300. It is the 12th
of 20 races in the 2000 ASA ACDelco Series season. The race will
be televised live on TNN Sports.
